Fear Of Let-Down That Births Migrants

With a packet of nachos in one hand and coffee in another, I opened my laptop with the hope of finding yet another great anime to kill time. While surfing through internet, I stumbled upon a video titled "Are you confused between pursuing MBA from India or abroad?". It reminded me for the fourth time today that I too need to get my career back on track and no one is gonna spoon-feed me a well paid job which I fancy. So, I became curious which led me to watch 5 such videos in a row and I still ended up with a nil conclusion about what I should do. So I decided to do a more thorough research about the available career options left for me (I'm a third year undergrad tho). At the end of my zestful probe for reliable career options, I came to know a lot about why students actually go abroad for their studies.

6 Reasons Why Students Lose Interest in Studying

It might not come as a surprise to anyone that India is the largest source for international annual migrants globally. The number was 7 million during 1990s which has seen a substantial increase of 143% at present. Another problem with this is that a majority of population leaving the country comprise of skilled people who, after gaining required knowledge and experience, plan to settle abroad, be it for further studies or better job aspects.  Last year, 17.5 million people left India. 63% people of age group 20-25 are unemployed in India which is the prime time when people choose to study abroad. These huge numbers clearly indicate the solemnity of the situation.

The current cut-throat competition for admission and job opportunities and lack of fair policies for facilitating these aspects seem to play key roles in leading people abroad. All these aspects are backed by ever increasing population of India which shows no sign of entering a reducing phase yet. Most of the current policies for education and job still follow the archaic laws that were introduced during the British raj. The biggest drawback that I believe persists in education system is reservation system. It was pretty useful back when it was introduced but in the current scenario, it is acting as one of the biggest hindrances for average and below average categories of students to receive quality education. Most of the castes falling under these categories are thriving and enjoying the pleasures of class life with least efforts while unreserved category students just have to wrestle their way with tremendous efforts to reach the same position. Cutoffs for an exam can be 90% for a general student but for the same exam, reserved category of students get admission even after scoring as low as 50%.

Even with such a large number of colleges and institutions, putting aside top 40-50 universities, universities in India do not provide quality content at all. A suitable example can be IP university in Delhi which is one of the renowned universities in Delhi and has 130 colleges within Delhi. 70% of these colleges do not even have basic amenities like a ground or park within the premise and the teachers in most colleges are not even qualified for teaching.

Even with such pathetic services, these universities always have the audacity to charge scandalous amount of fees. Yet another big reason why people prefer to leave India. Putting aside some government universities, colleges in India have much more fees criteria than they actually deserve.

It is not that colleges never wanted to provide good education. They have to manage their own expenses too. Big part of the blame should be put on the government too. Government has never payed the needed attention to education system which acted as a major catalyst in deteriorating the system. Education has always been given a very small part of the finance budget and from this little sum, corruption always jumps in and eats up almost half the amount and whatever remains is actually spent for the real thing and has hardly made any difference after all these years of independence.

Since India is a country whose majority of population's attention can be easily diverted towards anything when accurate measures are used, as we have been seeing since 2014, what it really needs is a leader who understands the actual needs of the people and is able to divert their attention towards something valuable to economy. Major change is needed in the attitude of the public itself, people need to learn the ability to understand what really helps in driving the economy and should vote for those who support the same idea.
