Why Attaining Mental Peace Seems Unattainable To Most People. How to find mental peace?
If you are stuck in life in any circumstance, be it career, physical health, or relations, then you are bound to become frustrated. It is because humans start frustrating as soon as some situation they are in starts slipping out of their hands or when they do not have a good idea about what is happening in that situation. Limited time also starts adding more pressure. In this generation's hectic lifestyle, this happens to many people quite regularly, like in a normal day in the office or many-a-time in colleges, that is why our brain learns to see everything as a problem and starts solving it in advance before it becomes a pain. And in all the above processes, we tend to lose whatever mental peace we had. It becomes our way of life. We simply cannot attain mental peace without making some drastic changes in our life.
Many people underestimate the importance of mental peace as it has no visible, tangible, or quick benefits. But it has several long term benefits on both brain and body which people realize a little late in life. Following are some of them:
* Better efficiency at work: If you were starting to consider mental peace as something which only wise and/or people should have, then you are wrong. Lots of corporate people have their own methods of practicing mental peace. Their pressure at work is probably the highest when compared with other jobs. Many of them resort to vices like smoking, drinking, or drugs. It is only about the choices they make at the point when they realize that their normal lifestyle is not going to help with the immense stress of deadlines and projects.
* Betterment of existing and new relations: After you have attained mental peace, you will be looking at people around you with a totally different perspective. You will be able to communicate better with people, your emotional quotient will increase and it will become difficult for others to give you a hard time during a conversation because you will be least damned about what they are saying.
* Better health conditions: You will definitely have better mental health but after you become adept in it, you will see major changes in your physical health too. People with a certain level of inner peace tend to age slower than those under high pressure.
* Positive vibe: You may have noticed some individuals whose mere presence in a room can light up the energy of the room. Some people are born with this quality, but it is not unattainable. You can definitely be that person if your mental state is good.
Inner peace isn't some kind of a product that you can buy in the market or master overnight. It takes time. While there are countless ways to attain mental peace, I have handpicked 8 of them for you which I personally use as well. These are simple and powerful methods and can be easily adopted by beginners. They are:
1. Spending more time with nature: I am pretty sure wherever you live, there is someplace where you can spend more time with nature and yourself. It can be a biodiversity park, a nearby forest, or even just a park but with lots of trees and a silent environment. Make a habit of visiting that park regularly while keeping your mobile phone at home. Nature has a special power in itself of healing people both mentally and physically.
2. Avoiding toxic relations: You may have had some instance in life where you never felt good with the presence of a particular person. It is safe to say that that person is toxic to you. By toxic, I do not mean someone who bullies or coerces you. A toxic person can be someone whose mere presence can reduce your own energy and/or when they start talking, they make you feel like leaving the place. It may not be intentional by them or you. Any person who is a good company for someone can be toxic for someone else.
3. Practicing mindfulness/meditation: Meditation can be quite difficult for many people as they are not able to keep their minds free from thoughts. It is totally normal. Meditation requires extreme control over the brain. But as a beginner, you can start by following some other points and practicing breathing exercises like deep breathing, anulom vilom, brahmri, etc. Practicing these for a couple of weeks can definitely help with the focus problem. Then you will start noticing improvements while meditation. There are lots of meditation types ranging from beginner to extreme levels. In this article, I will only tell about beginner-level meditation, beginners can practice isha kriya along with breathing exercises. Some beginners' yoga can also be done alongside.
4. Reducing screen time: Reducing your screen time not just while you in nature but at home and office too can have great effects. Constantly looking at the screen for a prolonged period can mess with the brain like causing reduced memory and brain-fog. Reduced screen time at home is still achievable but in offices, it is not really feasible. It is advised to take short breaks of 1-2 minutes in between your working hours and practice silence at that time with your eyes closed.
5. Acceptance: Accepting a situation, rather than running away from it, is a very powerful method of gaining more control over the brain and is probably the most difficult for some people, that is why I wrote it so late in the list. Oftentimes, you will be faced with situations where you will know that the only way out is facing the situation, accepting it, and moving on but instead, you will try to run away from it because running away easy. You need to be a person who follows the former one.
5. Practicing new hobbies: Practicing a new hobby or meeting new people is a very effective way to help with stress levels. They can also serve as an alternative for spending time on laptops or phones. Whenever you learn something new, your mind feels fresh and your cortisol level reduces.
6. Writing down your thoughts: Writing your thoughts down, not on a laptop or a phone, but on a copy with a pen or pencil is a very potent method of practicing mindfulness. Penning your thoughts can also help with accepting a difficult situation. Just sit at a silent place, maybe take a copy and pen with you while you take your walk in nature, and write down whatever is coming in your mind. Writing about a present stressful situation of yours will definitely help.
7. Listening to the music of your choice: I know this one's a cliche but it can be followed to lighten up your mood at times when you don't feel like doing any of the above. It should be anything but sad or heartbreak music, preferably morning music and energy music.
While all the above are really effective ways to attain mental peace, it must always be kept in mind that these methods only work if you follow at least 2 of them and that too for a long period of time, at least 21 days in a row. Many people give up in a week or so because they only want daily stress relievers, they do not plan to make it a way of their life. I have suggested these methods to my friends and close ones and they like it in the first and/or second days but afterward, they start losing interest in it and give up because they expect to see quick results. You have to learn from such mistakes and keep on practicing.
Everyone should learn about mental peace and how beautiful results it can have on people's daily life. Please share this article with your friends and family so that they can also bring significant changes in their life.
